About Prednicarbate

Prednicarbate is a relatively new topical corticosteroid drug. It is similar in potency to hydrocortisone. It is used in the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis. It has a favorable benefit-risk ratio, with an inflammatory action similar to that of a medium potency corticosteroid, but with a low potential to cause skin atrophy. The anti-inflammation action of corticosteroids is associated with the inhibition of the interleukin 1-alpha cytokine within keratinocytes. IL-1a is also found in fibroblasts, where it is responsible for proliferation, collagenase induction and IL-6 synthesis, which are related to skin thickness.

Indications

Prednicarbate is primarily indicated in conditions like Pruritic manifestations.

Contraindication

Prednicarbate is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity.

Side Effects

The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Prednicarbate are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Rashes, Urticaria, Pruritus, Burning, Allergic contact dermatitis, Edema, Paresthesias, Skin atrophy.

Warnings

As with other corticosteroids, therapy should be discontinued when control is achieved. If no improvement is seen within 2 weeks, reassessment of the diagnosis may be necessary. Topically applied corticosteroids can be absorbed in sufficient amounts to produce systemic effects.

High Risk Groups

If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
