Natamycin is a polyene antifungal, one of the currently available ophthalmic antifungal preparations. Natamycin is used locally for the treatment of fungal karatitis, belpharitis, scleritis, mucormycosis, and canaliculitis. Natamycin is also used in the treatment of vaginal trichomoniasis.
Indications
Natamycin is primarily indicated in conditions like Blepharitis, Candidiasis, Conjuctivitis, Fungal keratitis, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Intestinal candidiasis, Skin infections, Vaginal infections.
Contraindication
Natamycin is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity to any component of product.
Side Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Natamycin are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Blurred vision, Irritation, Eye irritation, Photophobia, GI disturbance, Eye Pain, Hyperemia.
Warnings
Your doctor should check your progress at regular visits. For some eye infections, these visits may be as often as several times a week. If your symptoms do not improve within 7 to 10 days, or if they become worse, check with your doctor.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Paediatrics, Pregnant Mothers, and Neonates.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
