Measles, Mumps and Rubella Vaccine is a freeze-dried preparation containing suitable live attenuated strain of measles virus, mumps virus and rubella virus. Measles, Mumps and Rubella Vaccine is used to provide active immunization against infection from measles, mumps and rubella viruses. Measles, Mumps and Rubella Vaccine is recommended for children 15 months of age and older and adults.
Indications
Measles, Mumps and Rubella Vaccine is primarily indicated in conditions like Measles prevention, Mumps prevention, Rubella prevention.
Contraindication
Measles, Mumps and Rubella Vaccine is contraindicated in conditions like AIDS.
Side Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Measles, Mumps and Rubella Vaccine, which give rise to further complications include Thrombocytopenic purpura, Respiratory tract infections, Viral infections, Otitis media, Febrile convulsions.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Measles, Mumps and Rubella Vaccine are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Diarrhea, Fever, Nervousness, Pain, Pharyngitis, Redness, Parotid pain and swelling, Edema, Rhinitis, Bronchitis.
Warnings
Vaccines should be used with caution in patients with pre-existing infection, blood disorder, tumor, bone marrow disease, tuberculosis, seizure or allergy especially to egg or neomycin antibiotics. Measels vaccine should not be recommended to children below the age of 1 year. Vaccination should be postponed in patients suffering from any acute illness. Immunization should not be carried out in individuals who have previously had a severe local or general reaction to the vaccine. Some vaccine contains antibiotics in small amount and should not be given to patients with history of anaphylaxis to the agent used. It should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
