About Bismuth Salts

Bismuth Salts are antimicrobial agents and used to treat peptic ulcer, indigestion, nausea, diarrhea; to relieve stomach cramps and to prevent traveler's diarrhea.

Indications

Bismuth Salts is primarily indicated in conditions like Duodenal ulcer, Peptic ulcer.

Contraindication

Bismuth Salts is contraindicated in conditions like Renal failure.

Side Effects

Bismuth Salts produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Encephalopathy. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Bismuth Salts therapy.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Bismuth Salts are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Ammonical odor, Stool darkening, Tongue darkening.

Warnings

Bismuth salt should be used with caution in patients with pre-existing illness or any allergy. This medication should not be used during pregnancy or lactation.

High Risk Groups

Drug should not be given to Paediatrics, Pregnant Mothers, patients suffering from Kidney dysfunction, and Neonates.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
